WHY SHOULD I HAVE A NUTRIGENOMIX TEST? HOW WILL THE RESULTS BENEFIT ME?
Find out if you:
- Need more vitamin D, calcium and omega-3 fatty acids
- Require a greater calorie deficit for weight loss than the general recommendations
- Respond better to weight loss with more physical activity than the general population-based recommendations
- Respond better to weight loss with a higher protein diet, lower fat diet and/or higher monounsaturated fat
- May be at increased risk of type 2 diabetes
- Have an elevated risk of low iron
Find your personal limit for:
- Saturated Fats in order to reduce the risk of obesity/high BMI
- Sodium in order to reduce the risk of high blood pressure
- Caffeine in order to reduce the risk of heart attack
Based on your specific genetic make-up our dietitian can develop the best dietary plan to help you meet your specific goals. This test is also useful for those who want an increased knowledge of how their body metabolises and stores certain nutrients so they can optimise their diet to ensure they’re getting what their body needs.
HOW IS THE TESTING DONE?
Via a saliva sample which is sent to the Nutrigenomix laboratory for analysis.
HOW ACCURATE ARE THE TEST RESULTS?
The accuracy of the genetic test results is between 99.7-100%.
HOW LONG UNTIL I GET MY RESULTS?
Once the laboratory receives your sample it will take approximately 2-4 weeks for the report to be sent back to our dietitian. We will then contact you for an appointment to discuss these results in detail and formulate a specific plan for your needs.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The price of the test is $365. This is the price set by Nutrigenomix and is paid directly to them. This price includes the cost of the collection kit, all shipping, laboratory analysis of the 45 genes, and detailed personalised PDF report. When you choose to have a Nutrigenomix genetic test you will be required to visit our dietitian in order to collect a saliva sample, and as such the above cost does not include consultation fees.
WHO WILL HAVE ACCESS TO MY GENETIC TEST RESULTS?
Only your dietitian will be able to access your genetic test results. Your Nutrigenomix test kit is marked with a unique barcode, which is what the company will use at their facilities to analyse your sample. Only your dietitian will be able to link your kit’s barcode to your personal information. Nutrigenomix uses the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol to encrypt information that is transmitted over the Internet. This technology uses 256-bit encryption, which ensures that confidential information cannot be viewed, intercepted or altered. Genetic information will never be disclosed, except where required by law.
CAN I REQUEST THAT MY SAMPLE BE DESTROYED?
Nutrigenomix will store your barcoded, anonymised DNA sample so that you will have the opportunity to be tested for additional genetic variants as new discoveries are made and the science develops. Such tests will be provided at a reduced cost since saliva samples will not need to be recollected. However, you may have your sample destroyed by sending a written request to your healthcare professional, who will inform Nutrigenomix.
